Don't let Father's Day be a forgotten Holiday. Mother's Day gets so much attention but Father's Day, at least in our family, tends to get swept under the rug. Don't let that happen this year! Plan ahead.
This year is the first year my son, 19, is away from home and serving in the military so I'm looking for something special to let my husband know that his contributions have not been forgotten. My husband is adamant that if it wasn't his insisting our son join JROTC his freshman year in high school that he would still be living in our house spending his life playing video games. Not to take away from my husband's pride, but I actually credit the JROTC Drill Team that did a presentation at the Junior High School for getting my son excited to join (he did 2 years on the drill team and excelled at it!). Though my husband DID tell my son that he HAD to join JROTC but he had already decided to do it at that point. LOL.
Anyway- back to Father's Day Gift Ideas. There are always the BEST DAD and My dad is my hero mugs and shirts, which can be great, but in our house they don't see much use. Unique and custom Father's Day gifts are the way to go this year. Below are some of my favorite customizable gift options for my husband & dad (because I shop for both of them!). There are so many design options that you can personalize. If you are looking for more options, including mugs, beer glasses and shirts, head on over to my Father's Day shop on Zazzle.
Personalized Golf Head Covers, for the Golf Lover- My husband likes to play golf, he doesn't get the chance to spend as much time golfing as he would like, but he takes great pride in his golf clubs that sit in the garage. There are so many options for golf head covers that can be personalized with your husband/dad's name. Here are just a couple examples below from Zazzle.
Personalized Watch- Zazzle doesn't have any smartwatch options but you can customize the design and any words on these more low-tech watches. Perfect for a father who is a little older and may not be as interested in the new fangled technology. OR for the dad/father who is in the military who needs an old school watch for times when a smart watch is not permitted (when my son went through BMT training for the Air Force smart watches were not permitted- if your spouse/father of your children is heading to BMT this is a great option!).
Personalized Cornhole- This is a fun gift idea that can get a lot of use. My husband enjoys playing cornhole. You can create a customized cornhole game for his guys nights that can also be enjoyed by the entire family! You can find a cornhole game for just about any theme. I like the military themed games- they work for the summer season from May through November with Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day. Great to take to all the family BBQ's and camping trips. You can also find frisbee's and custom decks of cards.
Kitchen Items for the Chef- I'll be completely honest, my husband is the chef in our family. He has always done most of the cooking and is much fancier than I am. He is usually in charge of dinner on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter. If you want a baker- that's me. Anything else, he's king of the kitchen (and the grill). So if your spouse/dad is the chef in the family, consider something he can use in the kitchen. Fun & practical!
Personalized Flask- This one I almost hesitate to suggest, it's almost like encouraging drinking on the go. But there are some fun options and if the dad in your family is anything like my husband, a little bit goes a long way in making boring school plays and sporting events a little more bearable.
And don't forget the Father's Day Card- my husband just tosses cards in the trash, but my own dad loves to send cards to his kids and grandkids for every holiday, b-day and reason so I take every chance I get to send him cards through the mail and I know he appreciates it!
